The Best Friend

The Best Friend

Once upon a time, there was a young woman who was a musician. Her name was Lisa. She played her guitar at a jazz cafe twice a week in her local town.  Her dream was to open her own jazz cafe in which she could play her original music every day. Unfortunately, she didn't have enough funds to pursue her dream.

One day, another customer at the cafe was quietly listening to her play her guitar. The name of this lady was Beth. Beth lived near the cafe and loved drinking espresso at the cafe every weekend. Beth said to Lisa, “I love your music. I like the sound of the guitar you play.” Lisa said, “Thanks! I have a dream…..”

Three years later, Lisa had spent most of her savings. She had no funds at all to pursue her dream. One weekend, she cried on her guitar while her closest friend Beth stood with her with no words to offer.

The following month, Beth drew a portrait and exhibited it at her private gallery. In the portrait, a woman was crying on a guitar. Just before the gallery closed, a man was looking at the portrait. The man asked Beth, “Why doesn't this one have a price tag?” Beth answered to him, “Sorry, it does not have a price tag as it is not for sale.” He asked, “Who is this person?” Beth answered, “She is my best friend. She had a dream….” After listening to Beth, the man finally said to Beth, “Please let me buy it. I will make your friend's dream come true.”

One evening the following year, Lisa was playing her guitar in her jazz cafe. There were also many drawings on the walls. Each one had the signature of her best friend Beth. One of the largest drawings was the portrait of a man. It was a memorial to the man who made Lisa’s dream come true.

I’m Still Alive!

Once upon a time, there was a man who made someone’s dream come true. One of his friends wrote about him in a story titled “The Best Friend.”

As soon as he read the last sentence of the story, he called the author of the story and  said, “Hey! I am still alive!” The author said to him, “Sorry, I added that sentence just before posting the story on Hello Talk. Do you want me to delete the last sentence?” The man answered, “No, you don’t have to delete it. Just buy me a coffee at Starbucks this afternoon.”

The author and the man met at the nearest Starbucks after lunch. The author ordered two cups of regular coffee.

However, the man said to the barista, "a cup of double shots espresso macchiato for me, please! Also, a piece of cheesecake!” The author said to the man, “You said ‘a coffee,’ didn’t you?” The man replied, “I think  macchiato is also a kind of coffee according to Wikipedia.”

The author finally agreed with the man and ordered two double shots espresso macchiato and two cheesecakes. The author showed his Starbucks card at the cashier. They enjoyed talking about the story.
