Coffee Frogs

Once upon a time, there was an island where many frogs lived. The name of the island was Kawai'i Island, or the Little Island. The island was located in the Kingdom of Kawai'i. The country produced espresso coffee beans which had a rich and deep flavor. 

The frogs on the island were coffee colored and tiny, as small as a coffee bean! They also made a unique croaking sound that sounded like "Coffee! Coffee!" every night. The croaking was so loud that people could hear the sound even in their dreams. Eventually, people began to call them "Coffee Frogs." 

A researcher studied about the frogs and why there were so many on Kawai'i Island. During their research, they discovered that the river's water tasted of coffee.

ある時、沢山の蛙が生息する島が有った。その島の名前は、カワイイ島、又は、リトルアイランドとも呼ばれていた。その島は、カワイイ王国に有った。その国では、香り豊かで深みのある風味のエスプレッソの珈琲豆が、生産されていた。

その島の蛙は珈琲色をしていて、また、サイズも珈琲豆みたいに小さかった。それらはまた、毎日、夜になると、独特の鳴き声を発した。その音は、まるで、「珈琲！珈琲！」と言っているように聴こえた。蛙の鳴き声は、とても大きくて、人々が夢の中でさえ聴こえる程で有った。やがて、人々は、それを、「珈琲蛙」と呼ぶようになった。

ある研究者が、なぜカワイイ島に、それらの蛙がたくさん居るのか調べた。調査をしている内に、川の水が珈琲の味がする事を発見した。

沢山の蛙が生息する : Many frogs live here/there.

島 (しま) : an island

蛙が生息する島 : an island where frogs live (noun clause)

沢山の蛙が生息する島 : an island where many frogs live.

有る (ある) : Such a thing is here/there. You have it.

有った。 (あった) : It was here/there. You had it.

島が有った。: There was an island.

蛙が生息する島が有る : There is an island where frogs live.

蛙が生息する島が有った : There was an island where frog lived. (We don't say "蛙が生息した島が有った". The last part "有った" is past tense, then it makes the whole phrase past tense.)

The name of the island was Kawai'i Island, or the Little Island. 
その島の名前は、カワイイ島、又は、リトルアイランドとも呼ばれていた。

珈琲 (こーひー) / コーヒー : coffee (There is no 'f' sound in Japanese language.)

有った (あった) : Such a thing was here/there. You had it.

聴こえる程で有った。: The sound was so loud that you could hear it.

Eventually, people began to call them "Coffee Frogs."
やがて、人々は、それを、「珈琲蛙」と呼ぶようになった。

ようになる : The situation will be changed in such a way.

ようになった : The situation has been changed, so you see such a new situation now.

それを、「珈琲蛙」と呼ぶようになる : You will begin to call them "coffee frogs". (in this context)
