Karate and Tang Soo Doo
空手と唐手道"唐手道" is read as "タン・スー・ドゥ" as a Korean Karate. Though, "空手" was also written as "唐手" and read as "トウ・デイ" in Okinawa before it was brought into the mainland of Japan many years ago. Karate people in Japan eventually began reading "唐手" as "からて", and also changed the kanji "唐" to "空" and added "道". Now, Japanese Karate is "空手道"(からてどう). By the way, China was called "唐" many years ago. So, "唐手"(トウ・デイ") in Okinawa meant "Chinese Hands", actually, Chinese martial arts.
