Today, I ate tsukimi dumplings after supper while thinking of the harvest moon. I then took a walk outside to see the light of the full moon.

Once upon a time, there was a poetess who disliked to call twelve months of a year by the numbers in Japanese.  She liked the way that people call each month by a unique name in English. She felt that “January” is more fantastic than “the 1st month.” So, she googled for “Japanese Old Calendar” and found the lunar calendar. The name of the calendar was “陰暦(いんれき)” or “旧暦(きゅうれき).” She read the list of the twelve months aloud, “睦月、如月、弥生、卯月、皐月、水無月、文月、葉月、長月、神無月、霜月、師走.” She loved those names very much and decided to use them in her new poems after that.
