Fostering Empathy: Challenging Harmful Internet Terminology

Fostering Empathy: Challenging Harmful Internet Terminology "情弱" (jōjaku), "自業自得" (jigōjitoku), and "自己責任" (jikosekinin) are unpleasant words that have been rampant on the internet in Japan. In America, I witnessed a situation where a person in a wheelchair was bewildered in front of a staircase. A passing young person said, "May I help you?" and several other young people around joined in to carry the person, along with the wheelchair, up the stairs. When the person in the wheelchair said, "Thank you so much!" one of them replied, "No problem! It's my pleasure! Have a nice day!" Can we stop using terms like "情弱" (jōjaku), "自業自得" (jigōjitoku), and "自己責任" (jikosekinin)? It's just not a kind way to express ourselves.

There is no such thing as a weed.

🌱 "There is no such thing as a weed. " (Tomitaro Makino) 🌱Hi there! Makino Tomitaro, a famous Japanese botanist, once said "雑草という草はない" which means "There is no such thing as a weed" in English. This means that we shouldn't just call a plant a weed and ignore it because every plant has its own good qualities. We should look at each plant and decide if it's useful or not based on what it can do. Makino's saying asks us to change the way we think about plants and see their value. Even plants that people usually don't pay attention to might have an important job in nature. 🌱 Words and phrases 🌱 "There is no such thing as a weed.
