No Problem!

Once upon a time, there was a Japanese teacher who always said, “No problem! Don’t worry!” One day, he taught his students about "の." He wrote some examples on the blackboard.

きのう、お父さんの車を借りた。
きのう、おとうさんのくるまをかりた。
I borrowed my dad's car yesterday.

Ex2
その長髪のご婦人は、私のお客さまです。
そのちょうはつの ごふじんは、わたしの おきゃくさまです。
The lady with long hair is my customer.

Ex3
彼は、新潟のおじさんに手紙を書いた。
かれは、にいがたの おじさんに てがみを かいた。
He wrote a letter to his uncle who lives in Niigata.

九州の冬は、そんなに寒くはないです。
きゅうしゅうの ふゆは、そんなに さむくはないです。
It is not so cold in the winter in Kyushu Island.

A student asked the teacher a question, "But then, what does ‘の’ mean anyway?" The teacher answered, "の question, please! の has の meaning by itself." The student said, "But I'm still confused." The teacher replied, "の problem! Don't worry!"

彼は、おじさんに書いた。: He wrote it to his uncle.

寒い (さむい) : cold (adjective)寒くない。: It's not cold.
