ある時、ロボット会社でユニークなロボットを開発している男がいた。彼の名はジョンで、周りの人々からは「ロボットマン」と呼ばれていた。
ある日、ジョンがお昼を食べていると、上司が同じテーブルにやって来た。上司が言った。「やあ、ジョン！相席して良い？」ジョンが返事した。「ええ、もちろん！」上司はジョンに一通の手紙を見せた。「このご婦人は我々がロボットを、ご本人の特別なニードに合わせてカスタマイズできるか聞いてるんだけど、オンラインで面会できる？」ジョンは答えた。「ええ、プロジェクトが終わったばかりなので、時間を取れますよ。」
翌日、ジョンはナンシーという名の婦人に連絡を取った。彼女は六十歳、小さくて静かな村で一人暮らしをしていた。ロバート（彼女の夫）は十年前に亡くなっていた。彼女はジョンに、彼女の夫は可笑しな男だったと言った。彼女は彼女の夫みたいなロボットを持つことを願った。「彼みたいに可笑しなロボットを作ってもらえますか？」愛する夫の写真を見せながらナンシーが言った。ジョンとナンシーは一緒にお昼を食べた。ナンシーは彼女の夫がどんなに可笑しな人だったかいっぱいしゃべった。
