Amazon Prime Membership Fee

According to the newspaper I read after lunch today, Amazon Prime membership fees will be increased/increasing from 3,900 yen to 4,900 yen for an annual membership, and from 400 yen to 500 yen for a monthly membership. I checked my Amazon account and noticed that I was on a monthly plan, paying 400 yen each month. So, as soon as I got home, I switched my account to an annual membership instead. I regret not paying enough/more attention to my membership plan.

Raise and Rise

Both these verbs refer to something going “up.” The difference is that “rise” is intransitive (has no direct object) and “raise” is transitive (it must have a direct object).

Something “raises” something.
Something “rises.”

“Rise” is an irregular verb: rise, rose, risen, and “raise” is a regular verb: raise, raised, raised.

For example:
Amazon plans to raise its Prime membership fee.
Later this year Amazon will raise its Prime membership fee.
Last September Amazon raised its Prime membership fee.
The Amazon Prime Membership fee will rise later this year.
Last year the Amazon Prime Membership fee rose to 4,900 yen.
The Amazon Prime Membership fee has risen to 4,900 yen.

Please note:
There is some confusion between “rise” and “raise” when used as a noun. For example:

I’ve had a pay rise. (British English)
I’ve had a pay raise. (American English)

increase:
Fujikun : It seems that the verb “increase” can be used in both way, does’t it? The fee will increase. The company will increase the fee.
Jo: Yes, that is correct, “increase” when used as a verb is both transitive and intransitive.

Oh just a quick note,the phrase “I got to know” is quite informal. It’s not wrong you can also say “l found out.” For example:
I got to know about it.
I found out about it.
I found out that the price is going to rise.

自分 (じぶん) : oneself, myself/yourself/himself/herself (depends on who the sentence is telling about)

会員 (かいいん) : a member

ステータス : the status

自分の会員ステータス : my membership status (in this context because I am talking about my membership status)

見たら (みたら) : when/as/if you see/saw it

月間 (げっかん) : a period of a month, monthly

プラン : a plan

月間プランになっている。: I was/am on a monthly plan.

月間プランになっていて、.... : I was/am on a monthly plan and/then/so ......

毎月 (まいつき) : every month, monthly

400円 (よんひゃくえん) : 400 yen

引かれている (ひかれている) : It was/is charged to your credit card. The bills were/are paid by direct debit from your bank account. An amount was/is deducted from your pay. Taxes are withheld. (depends on the context)

毎月400円引かれている。: You are charged 400 yen each month.

気が付きました。(きがつきました) : I noticed it.

毎月400円引かれていることに気が付きました。: I noticed that I was been charged 400 yen each month.

Please be careful of your tenses you are using both the past and present tense in this sentence.

I checked my Amazon account and noticed that I have been in the monthly plan and paid 400 yen each month.

My correction

I checked my Amazon account and noticed that I had been paying 400 yen a month for my membership.

This sentence too is in the present tense but I think you wanted it in the past tense instead. We don’t us “has” with “I.” For example:

I have
You have
He has
She has
We have
They have

毎月400円引かれていることに気が付きました。: I noticed that I has been charged 400 yen each month.

My correction, the past tense of “have” is “had.”
毎月400円引かれていることに気が付きました。: I noticed that I had been
charged 400 yen each month.

So, as soon as I got home, I switched my account to the annual membership instead.

年間プラン : annual membership plan
変更 (へんこう) : changing, replacing, modifying, editing, switching (noun)
しました。: I/We did it.

変更しました。: I/We changed it.

年間プランに変更しました。: I/We switched to an annual membership.

それで、年間プランに変更しました。: So, I/We switched to an annual membership.
