Today’s Class
In Japanese, we have two types of kana characters: hiragana and katakana characters. I will introduce some hiragana characters first. ' う ' (regular size) (vowel) : Think of the word "boots." The vowel here is a long vowel. Change it to a short vowel. This short vowel is close to 'う'. ' ぅ ' ( small size) : small ぅ Let's name this letter "small う" here. We don't use a small う by itself. It always follows something else to modify the sound. ' と ' : (consonant + vowel): This is the first letter of "Tokyo" or "tofu" in hiragana. Think of the word "talk" and change the long vowel to a short vowel. It will begin with a sound that is close to 'と'.
