A Prophet

Once upon a time, there was a man who often predicted that something bad would happen around him in his daily life. His name was John and the people in town called him, "prophet John." He lived with his wife Nancy. Here are just a few examples of how John predicted bad things every day.

One morning, John saw a glass of water near the edge of the dining table. He worried that the glass could fall on the floor. Nancy began to arrange the dishes and cups on the lunch mats. Then, the glass fell, just as he predicted.

After their breakfast, they went for a walk to the arcade. A girl was riding her bicycle while operating her smartphone with her right hand. John, concerned that the girl was not paying enough attention to pedestrians, then stopped his foot, but Nancy didn't. Then a part of the bicycle hit Nancy's right arm.

Luckily, Nancy was alright. Then, they kept walking to the arcade. John said, "Let's have lunch at the Riverside Cafe!" There were many customers in the cafe. They ordered two roast beef sandwiches, soups and decaf coffees. The staff seemed to be very busy. John saw a young female server carrying many dishes with both of her hands. John felt that one of those dishes seemed to be shaking a little bit. The server came to their table. When she put the dish on their table, everything fell from her hands, onto the floor.

John woke up and realized that he had seen a nightmare. He didn't like the dream. Nancy called him, "John!" "Breakfast is ready!" He washed his face and went to the dining table. There was a glass of water near the edge of the dining table.

幸い、ナンシーは大丈夫だった。それから二人はアーケードに向かって歩き続けた。ジョンが「リバーサイド・カフェでランチしよう！」と言った。カフェには大勢の客がいた。彼らは二人前のローストビーフ・サンドイッチ、スープそしてデカフェのコーヒーを注文した。店の人達はとても忙しそうだった。ジョンが見ると、若い女性の店員が両手にたくさんの皿を持って運んでいた。ジョンはそれらの皿の一枚が少し揺れているような気がした。店員が二人のテーブルのところに来た。彼女がテーブルに皿を置いたとき、両手から何もかもが床に落ちてしまった。そこでジョンは目が覚め、悪夢を見ていたのだと知った。彼は夢というものが好きではなかった。ナンシーが呼んだ、「ジョン！朝食が出来たわよ！」彼は顔を洗って食卓に向かった。食卓の縁付近には水の入ったグラスがあった。
