モーニング・サービス : This is one of Japanish expression which were made from English words, "morning" and "service". However, we use this expression when referring to a typical set menu for breakfast that many coffee shops in Japan would serve at reasonable price in the morning hours. On the other hand, someone told me the English word " service" is also used when talking about worship services in churches. So, I thought that morning services could mean worship services performed in the morning in churches. Please let me know if this story works as a funny story for you.

男がいた。: There was a man. (This last part is in the past tense and it makes the whole sentence in the past tense even one of clauses is in the present tense. Again, this is okay in Japanese. I feel that Japanese language is less logical than English. We speak from feelings, not based on grammar charts or formulas.)
